Update on Parish Merger

St Mary of the Angels Update—After the Archbishop’s proposals to merge and close St Mary of the Angels Church two Parish meetings took place. In the meetings Parishioners voted to oppose the decree issued by the Archbishop to merge the parishes. In a further meeting a Parishioners’ Representative Group was formed. This group met on Tuesday 14th August and have initiated the appeal process to Rome after the parish received a letter from the Archbishop rejecting the petition to him to stop the merger. We will provide further updates once any new information is available.

The Archbishop intends to come to St Mary’s on 14th September at 7:00pm to celebrate a mass of Thanksgiving .

Parish Meetings

Many thanks to all those who attended the recent parish meetings in order to respond to the Archbishop’s proposal regarding the future of our parishes. This is a very difficult, uncertain and emotional process. Let us continue to pray for God’s guidance and help.

Corpus Christi

Today, we celebrate the solemn feast which honours Christ’s sacrifice, the Sacrament of the Eucharist and the Real Presence of Jesus. The feast has three purposes: to give God thanks for Christ’s abiding presence with us in the Eucharist and to honour him there; to instruct us in the mystery, faith and devotion surrounding the Eucharist, and to teach us to appreciate and make use of this greatest of gifts. In Cycle B the emphasis is on the Eucharist as the sign of the covenant. Our second reading affirms that Jesus sealed the New Covenant with his blood.  By  consuming His Body and Blood, we are transformed through the most perfect possible union with God. Jesus taught transubstantiation unequivocally. This is my body…This is my blood. How can I thank him? Mark 14: 22-26
