Parish Meetings

Many thanks to all those who attended the recent parish meetings in order to respond to the Archbishop’s proposal regarding the future of our parishes. This is a very difficult, uncertain and emotional process. Let us continue to pray for God’s guidance and help.

Corpus Christi

Today, we celebrate the solemn feast which honours Christ’s sacrifice, the Sacrament of the Eucharist and the Real Presence of Jesus. The feast has three purposes: to give God thanks for Christ’s abiding presence with us in the Eucharist and to honour him there; to instruct us in the mystery, faith and devotion surrounding the Eucharist, and to teach us to appreciate and make use of this greatest of gifts. In Cycle B the emphasis is on the Eucharist as the sign of the covenant. Our second reading affirms that Jesus sealed the New Covenant with his blood.  By  consuming His Body and Blood, we are transformed through the most perfect possible union with God. Jesus taught transubstantiation unequivocally. This is my body…This is my blood. How can I thank him? Mark 14: 22-26

The Art of Accompaniment  – Cluster Workshop—Sat 21st October

Pope Francis is asking everyone in the Church to ‘make present the fragrance of  Christ’s presence… removing our sandals before the sacred ground of the other’ (Joy of the Gospel, 169). With these words the Holy Father is calling us to put the art of accompaniment at the very heart of our parish life. Bill Huebsch, an influential American lay theologian, and a warm, engaging speaker, will share with us ideas from his new book ‘The Art of Accompaniment’. We’ll learn about walking with others through the ups and down of life, perhaps family who have stopped joining us for the Sunday Eucharist, friends who struggling, or anyone feeling unsure about aspects of church teaching. Offered to the whole cluster, it will take place in St FX parish on Sat 21st October, starting after 10am Mass. Come help build the Church of Mercy!
